Welcome to Empower Medical Groups.  EMG’s main function is that of an internal medicine office, which means an office designed for taking care of adult medical needs.  Other than myself, I have nurse practitioners working in the office to help me.  All of us strive to help you take an active role in maintaining your health, evaluating medical knowledge that may be heard on the TV or the Internet, and constructing a logical plan for taking care of yourself in the future.

In this era, everybody is barraged with a huge amount of health information, some of which is reliable, some of it is not reliable it all.  One of our purposes here is to try to treat everybody following the core medical tradition of the Internal Medicine field, but at the same time interpreting information regarding medical care that you may receive elsewhere.

Speciality services unique to the Empower Clinic are an addiction medicine clinic.  Nationally, the amount of money spent on treating addiction problems has now exceeded what is spent on diabetes mellitus.  More people die every year of complications of addictions than they do from car accidents.  Many addictive problems stem from abuse of medicines prescribed by physicians for other purposes.  Addiction issues have certainly crossed all class lines and are now a widespread problem in this country, if not the whole world.  If you, or somebody you know, are suffering from an addiction problem, come in to hear the benefits of trying to control the addiction and hopefully eliminate it altogether.

Dr. Evans has a longstanding practice in kidney medicine.  Fortunately, kidney problems that lead to dialysis are rare, but partial damage of the kidneys is quite common given the prevalence of hypertension and diabetes mellitus in the population.  Only about 20% of patients with some degree of renal damage from this type of disorder will progress to dialysis, but it is very important to see a kidney specialist to make sure that progression to dialysis does not occur unnecessarily.  Screening kidney tests are very simple, involving performing simple blood and urine tests.  Sometimes an ultrasound of the kidneys is done too.  Call for an appointment with Dr. Evans for further information.

Empower Weight Loss Program is focused on attempting to reverse chronic health problems that are due to obesity.  A variety of approaches are taken including counseling, evaluation of evidence of diets and leads to various types of diets and food replacement programs to try to enable weight loss.  Occasionally appetite suppressants are supplied in conjunction with a diet.  Call us for an appointment to go over the options for weight reduction.
